Bears Fall 43-40 Against West Virginia - Game Recap

Tony Mathis Jr. scampered through the Baylor defense for 163 yards as West Virginia handed the Bears a 43-40 defeat on Thursday at Mountaineer Field at Milan Puskar Stadium.

The Mountaineers were a +3.0-point underdog in the win, and managed to turn a profit for their supporters. The combined score went OVER the total, which closed at 54.5.

Tony Mathis Jr. rushed for 163 yards, while Justin Johnson Jr. added 48 yards in the win. Kaden Prather and Sam James added 109 and 52 receiving yards respectively.

Richard Reese rushed for 57 yards for Baylor, while Qualan Jones added 44 yards. Blake Shapen threw for 326 yards for the Bears, while receivers Gavin Holmes and Drake Dabney had 210 and 66 yards respectively.

Baylor outgained West Virginia 590-500 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 28-26 by the Bears.

The time of possession battle favored West Virginia as their offense was on the field for 30:25, longer than the 29:35 of their opponents.

Next game, West Virginia takes its act on the road to face Texas Tech looking for another win. For Baylor, they head home to face Kansas.
