East Carolina Defeats SMU 52-38 - Recap
The Mustangs were burned by Blake Proehl for 152 receiving yards on Saturday as the Pirates picked up a 52-38 win at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
East Carolina won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the +12.5-point spread as underdogs. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 72.0.
Keaton Mitchell rushed for 68 yards, while Jsi Hatfield added 34 yards in the win. Blake Proehl and Tyler Snead added 152 and 92 receiving yards respectively.
Ulysses Bentley IV rushed for 36 yards for SMU, while Tyler Lavine added 34 yards. Shane Buechele threw for 314 yards for the Mustangs, while receivers Austin Upshaw and Judah Bell had 78 and 53 yards respectively.
SMU lost the offensive yardage battle to East Carolina 493-384 yards in Saturday's game. East Carolina had more first downs as that total ended up 28-26.
SMU lost the time of possession battle 30:17-29:43, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
