UAB got 25 points from Alejandro Vasquez en route to a 80-77 victory over Alcorn State on Thursday at Bartow Arena.
Efrem Johnson had 18 points for UAB and Eric Gaines chipped in with 15 points. James White had 2 assists for them, while Javian Davis was the team's top rebounder, grabbing 9 boards.
Alcorn State got 15 points from Dekedran Thorn in a losing cause and another 14 points from Jeremiah Kendall. Byron Joshua contributed 4 assists for them, while Jeremiah Kendall had 9 rebounds.
UAB had a 42-29 advantage in the rebounding department as they won the battle in the paint.
UAB heads into a battle against Middle Tennessee. Alcorn State, meanwhile, will have their next action against Michigan State.
